What are missed calls costing you?
Four numbers you already know. See the booked jobs and revenue that ring out every month — and what answering more of them would be worth.
Missed call cost calculator
Arithmetic on the numbers you enter — not a benchmark or a forecast. It assumes missed callers would have booked at your current rate; if some call back, lower the missed share to match. Nothing you type leaves this page.
The arithmetic
Why a missed call is the most expensive lead you buy.
If the call came from an ad, you already paid for it. If it rang out, the job usually goes to whoever answers next — and you paid for their customer.
Missed calls a month
Calls a week × 4.33 × missed %
Every call that rang out or hit voicemail.
Jobs lost
Missed calls × booking rate
What those calls would book at your current rate.
Revenue lost
Jobs lost × average ticket
The monthly cost, before you count the ad spend behind the calls.
Missed call questions
How much revenue do missed calls cost a contractor?
Multiply the calls you miss each month by the share of answered calls that normally book, then by your average ticket. That is the revenue the missed calls would have produced at your current booking rate. The calculator above does it with your own numbers; it does not assume any industry figure.
Do missed callers call back?
Some do, and many do not — especially urgent calls, which usually go straight to the next company in the results. If you know how many of your missed callers return, lower the missed-call share to match; the arithmetic stays the same.
How do I find my missed-call rate?
Your phone system or call-tracking platform reports answered, missed and voicemail calls. If you run ads, the missed calls from paid traffic are the most expensive ones: you paid for the click and lost the job.
How do contractors stop missing calls?
Overflow routing to a second line, an answering service or on-call rotation for the hours you advertise, missed-call text-back, and a weekly look at the answer rate. The budget leak check covers answering alongside the other eight places spend leaks.
